Cracking and bulging bricks
Many old homes shows some irregularities in the exterior brick. Sometimes the bricks will have a crack running down them, and other times the brick may be bulging outward or inward. While theres always a chance that this could be the result of bad brick work, most of the time this indicates a deeper structural problem. Often the foundation of a building or house may settle as the property ages. This causes sagging in the foundation that the bricks are actually sitting on. Since bricks can't bend, they simply break at the point of highest stress. Bulging bricks are often caused by internal pressure behind the bricks. This could be a sand filler under a porch for example. The good news is that it can be fixed! There are a number of solutions to this problem, depending upon the cause.
